Start with the packed cargo, not a container assumption

Out-of-gauge cargo extends beyond the standard dimensions of the chosen equipment. A heavy item can also require specialist planning even when it fits within those dimensions. Supply accurate packed length, width, height and gross weight for each piece, together with photographs, drawings and details of lifting points. Distinguish removable components from the dimensions of the complete machine.

Open top, flat rack, RoRo or breakbulk

Equipment selection depends on how the cargo can be loaded, secured and discharged. An open top may suit cargo loaded from above; a flat rack may suit oversized pieces requiring specialist securing. RoRo may suit suitable wheeled or self-propelled cargo, subject to acceptance. Breakbulk, part charter or full charter can be assessed when container equipment is unsuitable. ASL checks the handling plan at both ends before confirming a solution.

Plan the inland legs and site handover

The sea leg is only one part of a project movement. Collection and delivery can require route checks, permits, escorts, cranes, lifting plans or specialist trailers. Confirm access dimensions, ground conditions, unloading responsibilities and site booking requirements early. Costs should identify freight, handling, securing, inland transport and any survey or permit requirements rather than hide them within an unexplained total.

Frequently asked questions

What do you need to quote machinery shipping?

Packed dimensions and weight for each item, origin and delivery addresses, photographs or drawings, cargo value, readiness date, lifting points and loading/unloading arrangements.

Is project cargo always out of gauge?

No. A project can combine standard containers with oversized or heavy pieces. The term describes the coordinated movement for the project rather than a single equipment type.

Can you ship machinery from China to the UK?

Yes. ASL can assess container, open-top, flat-rack, RoRo, breakbulk and charter options, coordinating the overseas agent, handling, customs and UK delivery for the agreed scope.
