Match the facility to the cargo

Before arranging storage, confirm the commodity, package sizes, weight, number of units, handling method and expected storage period. Heavy machinery, fragile goods, regulated cargo and temperature requirements need specific acceptance checks. ASL can coordinate suitable handling and storage options rather than assume every facility can receive every shipment.

Container devanning and onward distribution

Devanning means unloading goods from a container. The handling plan should account for how the cargo was loaded, whether it is palletised, and any lifting equipment required. Confirm tallying, visible damage reporting, repacking or palletising requirements and the next delivery leg. Booking the receiving facility ahead of arrival helps align haulage, unloading and equipment return.

Define the storage and handling charges

Ask for a breakdown covering receipt, unloading, storage basis, handling, picking or preparation, and dispatch. Minimum charges and additional work can matter as much as the headline storage rate. Agree who authorises extra handling and how inventory movements are communicated. Customs-controlled storage should only be assumed when the required authorisation and procedure have been confirmed.

Frequently asked questions

Can you arrange short-term storage after container arrival?

ASL can assess handling and storage options against the cargo, location and period required, then coordinate onward delivery.

What information is needed for a storage quote?

Commodity, dimensions and weights, unit count, arrival method, storage duration and any handling, inventory or dispatch requirements.

Does warehousing include container unloading?

Not automatically. Confirm devanning, lifting, palletising, storage and dispatch separately so the agreed quotation reflects the work required.
